Mortal Kombat – reviewThe original Mortal Kombat series was awesome back in the day; relying on a certain darkness and over-the-top, gratuitous violence where it’s nearest rival, Street Fighter, placed a greater emphasis on a cartoon-like atmosphere.
As the year’s since the franchise’s heyday passed, interest waned, new titles sucked bunnies, and it looked like MK had been dealt one fatal final blow.
Now though, thanks to Warner Bros, it’s back in all its blood-soaked brilliant and guttural glory.
The game play is solid and engaging, the fights brutal and satisfying and the visuals sublime and gory, so yes, this well deserves it’s certificate 18 rating, and no, it isn’t one for the faint hearted.
But for those of us for whom the fantasy world of Mortal Kombat has long held a small place in our hearts, this is a welcome return to form.
