Wigan International Jazz Festival

Who's on when

Wigan International Jazz Festival logoWhat a weekend that was!

The 29th Wigan International Jazz Festival has been a magnificent success.

Attendances almost double last year's - with 1,250 attending the headline gig by Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra alone.

Some of the world's greatest jazz acts, including Jon Faddis and BBC Radio 2's Clare Teal.

And did we mention 250 pies were sold, too?

Stars and their pies...

It began with the sell out opening night when Jools Holland brought his boogie-woogie sounds to the appreciative audiences of Wigan, with guests Marc Almond and Melanie C getting the audience on their feet and dancing in the aisles with guest vocalists including Louise Marshall and Ruby Turner enjoying our town's most famous food...

On Friday, the day began with sets from AJ Brown and Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra, with Clare Teal bringing a magical set of Doris Day classics to a packed house.

Saturday saw free jazz in Wigan town centre with our own youth bands, the Greater Manchester jazz collective opening the house early doors and Midlands Youth Jazz Orchestra and a Merseyside showcase in the afternoon.

Trumpet legend Jon Faddis brought the house down on Saturday night with his cheeky banter and support from the Wigan Jazz Club Reunion Dream Band.

Our final day saw the SK2 Orchestra play the sounds of Stan Kenton, a flying visit from the University of South Florida Jazztet and a magnificent closing gig from the Super C Big Band.

Big thanks

Thank you to the thousands of guests who came along and supported the festival.

Our sincere thanks go to the festival sponsors who made it possible: Manchester Airports Group, WLCT, Wigan Council, Wigan Jazz Club, Gordons Honda Bradshaw, Gass and Hope, Hulljady, Liverpool Jazz, Wigan Dry Cleaners, Leisuretec and Stephensons.

What's more, next year is the 30th Wigan International Jazz Festival. We can't wait to see you there!
