Words Event Cancellation – Jon Oxendale

The Leigh and Wigan Words Together Literary Festival is sad to announce that the Jon Oxendale ‘Under Milk Wood’ event scheduled for Friday 4th April is cancelled.

Poet and puppeteer Jon, who appeared at the Words Festival three times previously, died peacefully in his sleep recently aged just 55.

Words Festival Co-ordinator Gillian Forrester said: “Jon was a true original and with his company Rubber Pig Productions entertained audiences all over the world. He was greatly talented and made over seventy puppets for his 'Little Theatre of Fantoccini'. Jon was a performer, a storyteller and magician and everyone who knew him and worked with him will miss his very much.”

Words ’08, supported by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, takes place from Monday 24th March to Saturday 5th April at venues across the borough. Many events are free but audiences are urged to book early to avoid disappointment.

Words festival guides are available at all of the borough’s 16 libraries, Wigan Tourist Information Centre, all festival venues and at Waterstone’s, WH Smiths and Smiths of Wigan bookshops.
