It’s healthy, it’s fun and it’s united the world in rhythm for thousand
years. Now Britain’s favourite social activity - dance - will be
celebrated in style at the borough’s third annual Dance Fusion festival.
Organised by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, the festival takes place
in two halves this year. Dance Around The World will bring a global
celebration of music and movement to Leigh Indoor Sports Centre at Leigh
Sports Village on Thursday 27th March.
From 1pm to 7pm dance enthusiasts can join in a series of free workshops
designed for beginners to budding Alesha Dixons.
Lowton Youth Dance Group will start the proceedings with a demonstration
of modern styles followed by a workshop for parents and young people.
The fun then continues with a series of free dance workshops and
demonstrations from around the world including Indian, Turkish, Cuban,
English, Spanish, Brazilian, North American and European.
Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust Active Living Co-ordinator Judith
Kershaw said: “As part of this year’s Dance Fusion we want to
demonstrate different cultural dances from around the world. We have
demonstrations of dances from across the globe for people to enjoy and
take part in. It’s a great way to see professionals at work and it all
takes place a very relaxed, informal atmosphere.”
Judith continued: “The sessions are ideal for beginners and families -
perfect for anyone who doesn’t dance regularly. Dance has great health
benefits and it’s a great way of socialising – so put on your dancing
shoes and join in the fun. If we get enough interest we hope to continue
these sessions beyond the festival.”
Under 14s must be accompanied by an adult and refreshments, including
food from all the different countries, are available all day. All
sessions are free but must be pre-booked by calling the Tourist
Information Centre on 01942 825677. For general information about Dance

Following on from Dance Around The World, the traditional Dance Fusion
showcase will take place on Saturday 26th April at Lowton Civic Hall.
This event features 17 talented groups from across the Wigan Borough who
all share a passion for dance.
In the previous two years this event has sold out so booking early is
essential. The event will be split into a matinee and evening
performance. Tickets priced £2.50 are available now from the Tourist
Information Centre on 01942 825677. For general information about the
