perform in an open air arena near to the grand Grade II listed Haigh
Hall on the outskirts of the borough of Wigan.

Pete Burt is WLCT’s executive director for Service Development.
He said: “Haigh Hall, with its panoramic views, is the perfect backdrop
for what will be one of the biggest and best open air concert series of
its kind in the north west.
“Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust works hard to ensure that every year
there are a multitude of leisure and cultural opportunities for the
people of the borough to participate in. This concert series will bring
some of the very biggest names in the music business into the borough’s
backyard and because it’s close to both the M6 and M61 it’s within easy
reach for the whole of the north west.”
Chris Walne, manager of Haigh Hall has been instrumental in signing the
artists and putting the concert series together. He said: “There’s going
to be a real variety amongst the performers. We’ve tried to bring
something different every night to this wonderful setting so that all
generations will be entertained.”
The Wigan Life Tuned-In Concerts series is part of a much wider “summer
of sound” planned across Wigan in 2010. On 4 July the borough’s best
unsigned acts will be able to perform at the arena ahead of the concert
series for the 2010 Haigh Fest. This free annual celebration of the
borough’s best unsigned bands is now in its eighth year. Immediately
following the Wigan Life Tuned-In Concerts Wigan’s 25th International
Jazz Festival (10 July to 17 July) will start at Robin Park.
Cllr Brian Baldwin, Wigan Council’s Cabinet member for Culture, said:
“This fantastic event will enhance the reputation of the borough, boost
the local economy and create a feel good factor for 2010. Last year was
a tough year for everyone but with creative ideas such as this combined
with the Wigan Food and Drink Festival, Jazz Festival, new Museum of
Wigan Life and host of other arts and sports activities throughout the
year there’s plenty on offer in Wigan to help revitalise the local
economy and put a smile on people’s faces.”
The golf driving range will be temporarily altered as the venue for the
event.
To minimise disruption to residents of Haigh parish a traffic management
plan has been developed to ease congestion concerns.
Further details about the three remaining acts will be released at the
end of March.
Corporate and VIP packages including dinner at Haigh Hall will also be
available from Wigan Tourist Information Centre.
