Turnpike Opens its Doors to Local Artists

Talented artists from across Wigan Borough are being given a unique opportunity to see their work on display in the borough’s largest public art gallery.

The Turnpike Gallery in Leigh, managed by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, is looking for aspiring and experienced artists, young and old, to take part in its annual ‘Open’ exhibition.

The exhibition is open to amateur and professional artists and students living or working in the borough of Wigan. This year a special section for children and young people under 16 has been added.

Turnpike Gallery Coordinator Louise Clennell said: “Artists are invited to submit one artwork on any theme. We are looking to include all the submissions to the exhibition - paintings, drawings, prints, ceramics, textiles, sculpture, photography and more. This is a great opportunity for local artists to have their work displayed in a fabulous gallery space.”

There is no charge to enter and artworks can be handed into the gallery on 6th, 7th, 8th, and 10th March. The exhibition runs from Saturday 15th March to 26th April. An opening event takes place on Saturday 15th from 12pm to 2pm; all are welcome.

For more information on how to get involved please call the Turnpike Gallery on 01942 404469 or visit the website: www.wlct.org/turnpike  and follow the links to the exhibitions page. Entry forms are available from local libraries or the gallery.
