The campaign to get Wigan Borough on the
move is quickly gathering pace.
The SHAPE (Sport Health and Physical Education) hotline has been buzzing
with calls since the campaign’s launch in September and now SHAPE has
hit the road with a new bus advertising campaign to encourage more
people to get physically active.
First National bus services across the borough are carrying the
campaign’s slogan ‘Love Life – Get in SHAPE’ in a bid to spread the
message as far and wide as possible.
The first buses have now been launched and are currently driving the
message home across all four corners of the borough. Wigan Leisure and
Culture Trust Sport and Health Manager Nick Colledge joined colleagues
from Wigan Council and Ashton Leigh and Wigan Primary Care Trust to see
the first bus hit the road.
Nick said: “It is imperative that we encourage people from all areas of
the borough to try and make a difference to their lifestyles. We
launched SHAPE with a run from Pennington Flash to Haigh Hall and we are
now looking at other creative ways to get the message to all of the
borough’s residents the bus campaign is just one of them. Ultimately we
want people to be aware of the benefits of leading a healthy lifestyle
and that the SHAPE team are on hand to help.”
SHAPE is the brainchild of a group of organisations working in
partnership to improve the health, well-being and quality of life for
residents of the borough.
The key partners in the project are Wigan Council, Wigan Leisure and
Culture Trust, Ashton, Leigh and Wigan Primary Care Trust and Wigan
Borough Sports Council. The challenge is to get the number of people
taking part in regular physical activity in the borough increased by
3,000 per year for the next five years.
