On the move?

Residents in and around Orrell and Pemberton are being asked for their views on proposals for a new library in their area.

Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust is considering relocating Orrell Library from Orrell Post into the planned new £20million Abraham Guest High School at nearby Lamberhead Green.

Questionnaires are now circulating far and wide in the Kitt Green, Longshaw, Billinge, Norley Hall, Pemberton and Worsley Hall areas, as well as Orrell and Lamberhead Green. Forms are available from Orrell Library and other public buildings, plus churches, shops and post offices, and online at www.wlct.org/Libraries/orr_reloc.htm

Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust’s Taryn Pearson, Head of Lifelong Learning and Information, says:
“Relocation offers tremendous potential in terms of modern surroundings and services, and a similar project in Platt Bridge has proved an overwhelming success, but we recognise that people will take other factors like location into account.

“We want to gauge opinion as far and as wide as possible – the forms are freepost, they are available online and we’ll also be consulting with local schools after half term. Whether you are a current library user or not, if you’ve got an opinion, we want to hear it!”

The questionnaire outlines the benefits of relocation, as well as giving existing library users the opportunity to oppose relocation. Closing date for return is 16th November.
