Wigan Pier Theatre Company is looking for new recruits of all ages to join
their drama workshop groups this autumn and learn the theatre skills
required to become the theatrical stars of the future.
The theatre company, part of Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, will be
running youth theatre groups in Platt Bridge, Standish, Hawkley Hall,
Lowton, Higher Folds, Wigan Pier and Hindley. Additional funding for the
groups has been secured from Coalfields Regeneration Trust and the
Community Foundation for Greater Manchester.
Each of the groups played a starring role in this summer’s successful
youth theatre festival Platform ’07. September also sees the
introduction of a brand new group in the Hindley area for 8 to 11
year-olds.
A range of activities are covered at the workshops including acting,
drama games, improvisation, script writing, physical skills and voice
coaching. New and old members are invited to the latest sessions where
they can make new friends, learn new skills and perform live for friends
and family.
Wigan Pier Theatre Company also runs two adult community theatre groups.
Development Officer Martin Green explained: "It’s going to be another
busy year for the theatre company. Adult drama classes take place at
Wigan Pier on a Wednesday evening and Higher Folds Community Centre in
Leigh on a Friday evening.
“The adult groups’ recent production of ‘Two’ – a double bill of
northern comedy – was a quality event and these groups will be
challenged with similar work this year. These groups are for those aged
twenty and over who want to get creative, build their confidence, or
just have fun acting.”
All workshop sessions are free of charge. To enrol, contact Wigan Pier
Theatre Company on 01942 709305 as soon as possible, or turn up at one
of sessions which commence from Monday 17th September.
