Photo Opportunities: Photographers are invited to attend the Under 5’s Festival events at 2pm on Tuesday 11th September at Standish Library and 11am on Wednesday 12th September at Leigh Library. Contact Chris Dunbar on 01942 486937.

Wigan Borough’s libraries are set to be gripped by jungle fever in September as over one thousand young children join in the annual Under 5’s Festival.

Organised by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust’s children’s team the free festival runs from Saturday 8th to Sunday 16th September and celebrates the success of the regular Under 5’s Story Time that run throughout the year.

Each library participating will host their own jungle themed party during their regular story time slots. Each party will include music, singing, dancing, arts, crafts and of course storytelling.

There will also be special appearances at the parties by a variety of mystery guests. Famous children’s characters will be at Wigan and Leigh’s town centres on the opening Saturday and at Haigh Hall on Sunday 9th giving out information about library services for young people.

Rita Devlin, Children’s Officer for Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust said: “Last year over a thousand children plus their parents and carers got involved in the festival and everyone involved had great fun. The festival aims to highlight the importance of our fantastic under five's story times as well as hopefully attract new users to our libraries by showcasing the great opportunities there are available to people with young families.

“Everyone is welcome to attend our story time sessions throughout the year, but we would encourage people to come and enjoy this festival. It’s a great chance to see what’s on offer and have some fun; and of course it’s all free.”
