Green Fever Grips Wigan Borough

People from Wigan and Leigh just can’t seem to get enough of their greens; green spaces that is not vegetables!

The borough’s parks have been a hive of activity over the summer as people have really got into the spirit of the ‘Pride in Your Parks’ campaign. Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust want to ensure that your parks continue to be packed full of fun through into the early autumn.

Make the most of August and September with a fantastic range of events and activities at local beauty spots such as Haigh Hall and Country Park, Mesnes Park, Pennington Hall Park, Pennington Flash and all of the other major parks across the borough. Whether it is bug hunting or creepy crawly crafts, brass performances or orienteering; a great time is guaranteed for all.

Claire Duffy, Deputy Manager of Haigh Hall and Country Park said: “Our events for the remainder of August and September promise to be some of the best yet. Towards the end of the summer holidays, many parents run out of activities for their children to do; here at Haigh we have plenty on offer for families and children.

“A range of educational events are also available. The medicinal walk and herb garden sessions are great opportunities for people of all ages to learn about the hidden purposes and wonders behind the plants and flowers in Haigh’s Plantations.”

Sharon Saunders, Parks and Countryside Activities Manager for Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust said: “Summer is obviously a time we all love because the sun is shining and the nights are lighter. Many people take this as an opportunity to get fit, so why not use your local park to be active? Most parks across the borough offer health walks to help you get on the fitness ladder. They are the perfect places to enjoy a brisk walk, jog or stroll and the fresh air is a welcome change to the hustle and bustle of our busy town centres.”
