Hundreds of people will have the chance to witness a pride-invoking
version of the world famous classical music event ‘The Last Night of the
Proms’ live in Leigh this summer.
Music fans are invited to enjoy the memorable musical experience on
Saturday 8th September at Pennington Hall Park, Leigh, as the BBC
celebrates eighty glorious years of its own flagship event.
The borough’s own particular version of the Proms will feature the
Tyldesley Band playing a repertoire of favourite ‘Last Night’ music such
as Land of Hope and Glory and the National Anthem. For children, there
will be face painting and the chance to be wowed by the magician. If
that isn’t enough, an impressive firework display will make sure the
evening ends with a bang!
Anne Cockram, Parks Community Liaison Officer for Wigan Leisure and
Culture Trust explained why last year’s event was enjoyed by over 500
people: “Whether you’re a classical music fan or not the Last Night of
the Proms is traditionally a must see event. Thanks to the Trust and
Leigh Township forum, local music lovers and families can delight in
classical sounds in the beautiful surroundings of Pennington Hall Park.
“This is fantastic opportunity to get together with your friends, pack a
picnic and enjoy a feast of music that will invoke national and local
pride. Please get in touch early - we have already sold nearly
three-quarters of our tickets!”
‘Last Night of the Proms’ takes place on Saturday 8th September from 6pm
at Pennington Hall Park, Leigh. Tickets cost £5 per person.
Due to such a great turnout last year numbers are limited so early
booking is advised, contact 01942 488552. For more details on this event
