Norley Hall Adventure Playground – Back with Pride

When ‘Pride in YOUR Parks’ was launched the key word for all the agencies involved was ‘partnership’.

Nowhere has the emphasis on partnership been more successful than at Norley Hall, where local residents and councillors have teamed up with Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust’s Play Team to re-open the Adventure Playground for the summer holidays. The playground had been a victim of regular vandalism over the last six months.

Norley Hall Adventure Playground is an open access adventure play facility open for children aged up to fifteen. The playground is a valuable space for children to play and to help develop their social, physical and creative skills. Parents and carers support a team of play workers to deliver play activities and ensure that the play equipment is being used correctly.

Phil Blackwell, Senior Play Officer, for Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, said: “We teamed up with the local community to make sure the facility was up and running for the summer break. The hard work has reaped very positive results so far - over 200 children turned up to play during the first week of the holidays. We have been encouraged that the site has been trouble free since the re-opening and we are working closely with the police, councillors and the local community to try and ensure it stays that way.

“We hope that the message is now getting out to the local community that this is a facility for them and it is theirs to use and to respect. We would like to thank local councillors who have played a vital role in helping us to make the site fit for purpose and also to get the message out that Norley Hall Adventure Playground is a place to cherish.”

Norley Hall Adventure Playground re-opened on Monday 16th July with 50 children attending plays sessions on the first day. The playground will remain open for the summer holidays every weekday from 1.00 - 4.30pm. Any child under five must be accompanied by an adult.
