New President for Wigan Borough Sports
Council
Wigan Borough Sports Council are pleased to announce that Phil Clarke
has
agreed to take on the role of President.
Phil has packed a lot into his adult life. Phil previously played for
Wigan RLFC during the 1980’s and 90’s. During that time he captained
both his club and country and later moved to Australia where he played
for Sydney City. His career was tragically cut short by a serious neck
injury and he returned to England to pursue business interests.
During the last nine years he has worked as the Chief Executive for
Wigan RLFC and more recently as a commentator for Sky Sports. He has
been a Director of Healthworks for 12 years which is a specialist Health
Promotion and Leisure Management Company. He has also been involved with
Sport England, as a Board member for the North West for the past three
years and is a trustee of the Rugby League Benevolent Fund, which helps
to assist players whose lives are affected through serious injuries
sustained whilst playing the game.
Trevor Barton, Wigan Borough Sports Council Chairman said ‘Phil is an
articulate man who sees the wider benefits of Sport – his vast sporting
experiences and his work with Sport England can only help all the myriad
of sports clubs in our area.’
