Feast of Photography at Wigan’s History Shop

Wigan’s History Shop is set to host a free ‘Feast of Photography’ this autumn, as the borough’s finest camera clickers zoom in to display their award wining work.

In a rare opportunity to witness these breathtaking images, visitors are expected to flock to the History Shop over the next five weeks to vote for their favourite shot.

First to get the camera’s rolling are the Wigan Photographic Society, whose talented members such as Eddie Prescott, and his award winning image ‘Winter Mist Over Bradburn’s Farm’ capture the natural beauty of our picturesque borough. The digitally engineered images of the talented Atherton Photographic Society are also sure to leave visitors reeling in wonder.

Yvonne Webb, Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust’s Collections Development Manager, says, “The History Shop is delighted to host such a fantastic exhibition. We are blessed with having a great deal of local talented photographers and the History Shop lends itself perfectly to this kind of exhibition. We are not only providing an opportunity for photographers to show off their work but for visitors to share a moment in time and enjoy pictures that would otherwise be confined to private collections and photo albums.”

‘A Feast of Photography’ is completely free and will be on display at the History Shop, Library Street, Wigan on the following dates:

26th August to 9Th September, Wigan Photographic Society
16th to 30th September, Atherton Photographic Society

The History Shop opening times are Monday 10am-7pm, Tuesday to Thursday 10am-5pm and Saturday 10am-1pm. In addition to regular exhibitions, The History Shop also plays home to a museum, an art gallery, family and local history research centre and a gift shop.
