Wigan Pier goes Wild with Animal Antics
Photo Call: Photographers are invited to attend ‘Animal Antics’ at Wigan
Pier. The best time to attend is 3.30pm. The first session takes place
on Thursday 27th July. Contact: Chris Dunbar on 01942 486937.
Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust’s team of Learning Officers are inviting
families to go wild at Wigan Pier this summer. The Pier’s ever-popular
family event ‘Animal Antics’ is making a welcome return and this year’s
line-up of animal activities is wilder than ever.
There are a host of new activities to enjoy and the Pier will be visited
by some specially invited animal friends including the ferrets Frodo,
Treacle and Beano, who recently starred on TV’s ‘Richard and Judy’. A
team of owls, including a dead-ringer for one of Harry Potter’s faithful
friend’s, will be swooping in on weeks 2, 3 and 5 of the five-week
programme.
Learning Officer, Kirsty Hall, says, “We wanted to do something even
more exciting than usual this year to reward our loyal visitors and to
encourage new families to come along too. Every Thursday over the summer
we will allow families to choose from a range of crafts and games and
experience lots of different animals at first hand. We’ve kept the
popular mask painting but have introduced new activities including
mobile making, animal modelling and sock puppets. We have had great
feedback since we started this event and we hope this year’s will be
better than ever!”
One of the aims of this year’s event is to encourage families to learn
and work together. As well as numerous craft activities on offer,
families will be able to play games and puzzles or spend some time
reading together in the Animal Antics book corner.
Animal Antics is ideal for children aged 4 to 11. There will be a
different team of animal guests invited to each session. On Thursday
27th July and August 17th the ferrets will be in town. The team of wise
owls will be entertaining on 3rd, 10th and 24th August.
