Hot on the Square, Leigh’s favourite fun festival of street entertainment is warming up for a rousing return to the Civic Square, from Tuesday 25th to Thursday 27th July.

The festival, organised by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust (WLCT), is a three-day long free event that brings together professional acrobats, street artists, comedians, magicians and musicians with local amateur groups in an outdoor extravaganza of fun and mayhem for all the family.

Thousands of excited families witnessed the 2005 event, and this year’s event is hotting up to be even more explosive and original than ever.

Highlights of this year’s line up include:
• Urban Canvas: The masters of visual pavement art.
• Pluck: Hair-raising comedy from the hilarious trio.
• Fairly Famous Family: A double helping of magic and mayhem.
• De Ramos Acrobats: Stunts to make your eyes water!
• Stickleback Plasticus: Fumbling comedy by these Brummy bodgers.
• Artizani with Syrovy: A comedic throw back to Keaton, the Marx Brothers and W.C. Fields.
• Matt Barnard: Comedy with audience participation.
• Black Eagles: Amazing acrobatics set to the sounds of Tanzania.
• Dr Southall the Flatulator: A machine that does exactly what it says on the tin!

The festival will also feature local dance groups Broomfield Academy, Tyldesley Marionettes and the Daughters of Isis. The local groups will all get their chance to get their chance to shine alongside the professional acts.

Chris Wyatt, WLCT’s Arts and Festivals Manager, says, “The people of Leigh have always got into the spirit of our street festival and we always provide a good variety of entertainers that will appeal to everyone. Street entertainment is fun, vibrant and colourful. In many towns has been lost as an art-form – but not in Leigh! We are hoping for some great weather and great hot fun and we hope many people of all ages will come along and join us for what is sure to be a wonderful three days.”
