Monday 10th July. Wigan Warriors and Wigan’s Sport Relief organisers

Wigan Warriors have teamed up with Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust
(WLCT) to encourage people to take part in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief
Mile on Saturday 15th July 2006. Wigan’s premier sporting venue Robin
Park Arena will host the event which is perfect for runners and walkers
of all ages and abilities and the Warriors are urging people to take
part.
The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile, will see the UK unite to complete a
mile to raise money to help vulnerable people leading tough lives at
home and abroad. WLCT is inviting people from Wigan Borough and beyond
to unite behind the cause and enjoy a fun event suitable for all ages
and abilities from 10am at Robin Park Arena.
Nick Colledge, WLCT’s Sport and Health Manager, says, “The Trust is
really pleased to be supporting Sport Relief once again and we are
delighted to have the Warriors support. We organised a successful event
in 2004 and it proved to be a very rewarding occasion for all those who
took part. People of all abilities can take part in our event because
the running track is perfect for professional runners, people with
disabilities and people of all ages.”
Wigan Warriors star Wayne Godwin says, “We hope lots of people will come
along to Robin Park Arena and take part on July 15th. Unfortunately we
can’t be there in person on Saturday because of prior commitments, but
Sport Relief is a very worthy cause and I would urge all Warriors fans
to register now and raise some money for those who need it most. Just
running or walking a mile on Saturday could make a huge difference to
people’s lives.”
The Robin Park event will take place between 10am and 1pm and those
wishing to take part can register online at
www.sportrelief.com.
Registration is available on the day at the track, but numbers are
limited. The miles will take part in waves and WLCT will provide a free
aerobics warm up for all participants. For further information call
01942 828572.
In 2004, Sport Relief raised more than £16 million and saw more than
80,000 people ‘Going the Extra Mile’. Sport Relief Saturday on 15th July
will be broadcast live throughout the UK between 10:30am and 12noon on
BBC One. For further information visit
