turned to pedal power today to inspire people join in a free cycling
taster session at Robin Park Sports Centre from 10am to 2pm on Friday
15th December.
Wigan’s ‘Wheels for All’ event’ is free to anyone who has an interest in
cycling or may be looking for new ways to get active. It is particularly
tailored for those with disabilities and differing needs who are unable
to use two-wheeled bicycles. The cycling taster sessions will be held in
the sports hall and all equipment will be provided.
The event is being co-ordinated by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust’s

Cycling Project’s, that aims to provide cycling opportunities for people
of all abilities to enjoy.
Ian Tierney manager of Cycling Project’s who develop the Wheels for All

disabilities and differing needs. This event aims to introduce people to
cycling and gives people the chance to try out special cycles and try
the ‘step through’ styles that we use in our health rides. We now have a
fleet of nearly 300 adapted cycles and many thousands have been
introduced to cycling over the years.”
Clare Turner, Activity Referral Officer, from Wigan Leisure and Culture
Trust, said, “This is going to be a really fun event with lots of
different cycles on hand for people to try out. It is important for us
that everybody gets an opportunity to get active. Cycling is fun and has
huge health benefits and this is the ideal opportunity for people of all
abilities give it a go.”
