Platt Bridge Community First – Opening the Doors of Opportunity

Platt Bridge Community First, the ground-breaking new ‘extended school’ is opening its doors to the local community on Wednesday 15th November.

From 6pm to 8pm, the public are invited to attend an open evening at Platt Bridge Community First, Rivington Avenue (off Liverpool Road), Platt Bridge, to see for themselves the array of excellent new facilities now available for public use.

A series of guided tours of the new school have been arranged and all of the partner organisations, including the school, library and children’s centre, will be on hand to give out information and answer questions about all of the facilities on site. Free activities for children will be available to keep them entertained.

Platt Bridge Community School Head teacher, Sue Darbyshire, is urging the local community to grasp this one-off opportunity, “This is a great chance to see what facilities are available for local people and an exclusive opportunity to see behind the scenes at one of the best community facilities in the borough. We will also provide free activities for children to ensure that carers, parents and grand parents have the freedom to have a good look around.”

Platt Bridge Community First is:
• Platt Bridge Community School, a merger of nearby Low Hall and St Nathaniel's;
• SureStart children's centre, with 'wrap-around' nursery, and full day care and baby unit;
• Family support centre, with assessment areas for family and child welfare;
• Dedicated children's library, operated jointly by the school and Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust;
• Public library and information centre;
• Community health centre, including GPs surgeries, pharmacy and a wide variety of health services; and
• A new Wigan and Leigh Housing area office

Presently, the primary school, library, Sure Start children’s centre and family support centre are open to the public. The area housing office is due to open soon, with the community health centre to open early in 2007.

Platt Bridge Community First will be open to the public from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday 15th November. Guided tours take place every half hour. For further information about the open evening contact 01942 487997.
