Abram Library: New Opening Hours Ahead of
Relocation
The opening of a new library as part of the Platt Bridge Community First
extended school project will mean the relocation of many library
services from Abram Library.
During October Abram Library’s opening hours will be adjusted to ensure
that access to library services is maintained for regular customers. The
reduced hours will be at the most convenient times for users and enable
the library service to undertake essential work prior to relocation.
Abram Library will remain fully functional until Monday 9th October. For
the remainder of October opening times will be limited to Mondays and
Thursdays until the transfer of the library’s core services to Platt
Bridge Community Library from Wednesday 1st November.
Plans are proposed for Abram Library to become a new community-run
centre that will include some library services. Wigan Leisure and
Culture Trust (WLCT) will provide the centre with four People’s Network
computers and over 3,000 books. WLCT will also provide an extra mobile
library visit to Abram after relocation, until the new community centre
opens.
Taryn Pearson, WLCT’s Head of Lifelong Learning and Information, said,
“We are fully supportive of the plans to maintain library services in
Abram and we have been working hard with the community and Wigan Council
to make this happen. The new facilities at Platt Bridge are very
exciting for the local community and are just a short distance from
Abram. In the run up to the community centre being open, we want to
provide outreach library services in Abram - that is why we have put
these positive steps in place.”
