Spikey's Ballroom Blitz!

Dave SpikeyComedian Dave Spikey kicked off his ‘Living The Dream’ tour with a sell out show at the Monaco Ballroom, Hindley on Sunday 4th October and was quick to sing the praises of the revamped venue. The Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust managed Leisure Venue recently received a £25,000 facelift to make it more attractive to high profile performers.

“It’s been a while since I’ve been here but it really is the perfect venue to kick-off the tour. The Monaco still retains a classic ballroom feel, but has been really smartened up. To get over 600 people in here is a sight to behold, the atmosphere was fantastic and I really felt at home on the stage,” remarked Dave (pictured on Sunday) after his performance. “I’m already looking forward to coming back in November, the audience gave me a great reception and the great thing was everyone seemed to revel in the occasion.”

The improvements at the Monaco Ballroom include the installation of new modern lighting including chandeliers and the redecoration of the walls and ceiling to the main hall, entrance and bar to give it a modern feel.

Dave’s double header at Hindley, saw the October date completely sold out, with the second date on 9th November only having a handful of tickets left. Dave’s exuberant performance was strengthened by Leigh comic Mike Wilkinson’s (pictured on Sunday) excellent debut at the Monaco. Mike’s relaxed style and hilarious storytelling complimented Dave’s performance perfectly.

Leisure Venues manager Brain Yates is confident that the improvements will see a glut of stars performing in Hindley, “I know how surprised both Dave and Mike were by the quality of the venue. I think Dave’s sell-out shows will go a long way to putting the Monaco on the map as a venue for both comedy and music performances alike.”

Following on from Dave Spikey, the Monaco will host a series of high quality tribute nights featuring The Rollin’ Clones (14th October), The Jam Restart (22nd October), U2UK (18th November), Mark Williamson as Elvis (26th November), David Kidd as Tom Jones (2nd December) and Meatloaf with Cher (Tuesday 27th December).
