Open house at Haigh and the Pier
Two of Wigan's top attractions are throwing open their doors this week as
part of a national celebration of the country's heritage.
Wigan Pier and Haigh Hall are taking part in Heritage Open Days, a
national scheme celebrating England's architecture and culture through
free access to properties that are usually closed to the public or charge
for admission.
Entrance to The Way We Were museum at Wigan Pier is free this Sunday, 11th
September, between 11am and 5pm, while a peek at the awesome Trencherfield
Mill engine will cost just £2.50.
Haigh Hall is offering two free tours of the historic hall on Thursday
evening, 8th September, starting at 6.30pm and 7.30pm. Numbers are limited
and so booking is essential by ringing 01942 832895.
The Heritage Open Days programme is being organised by the Civic Trust in
partnership with English Heritage, and locally by Wigan Leisure and
Culture Trust (WLCT).
Georgina Bentley, Marketing Operations Manager for WLCT, said: "We know
that many locals have still not been round the Way We Were, so this is
their chance to see it for free. Haigh Hall isn't generally open to the
public, so this is an opportunity to find out more about one of our most
historic buildings."
