Lilford Park’s Play Boost
Lilford Park’s play facilities are set to undergo a dramatic
transformation following a £110,000 investment by Wigan Council in
partnership with Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust.
Work starts on a new play facility for the under 12's on Wednesday 7th
September. The new facility will be located on the existing site and will
see the site split into different age zones.
When completed, the play area will offer something for all children 12
years old and under, regardless of their physical ability. The exciting
developments on the site include:
• Nest Swing - enabling less physically able children and their carers to
sit on the same swing
• Cradle seats
• Sand Works Unit
• Tower slide
• Supernova
• Tornado
When completed, the play area will offer something for all children 12
years old and under, regardless of their physical ability.
Andrew Sharrock, Township Manager, says: "This marks the start of a
significant improvement plan for Lilford Park which the Leigh Township
Forum are pleased to be working in partnership with Wigan Leisure and
Culture Trust. The new under 12's play area will see an investment of
£110,000 into the park."
Deborah Freeman, the Trust’s Community Regeneration Manager for Play and

work, this will be carried out in different phases to ensure children
always have access to play equipment. The Trust is pleased to be working
in partnership with Leigh Township Forum on this exciting project that
will give the under 12's of Leigh a state of the art play facility."
Andrew adds, "The Township Forum and Wigan Leisure and Cultural Trust have
aspirations to see other improvements in the park, such as; better parking
area, a new Park Ranger Station/Office, Environment Class Room, Sports
Zones, informal recreation area, Arboretum and improved wildlife
habitat's. While a considerable amount of funding will be required for
these improvements the Forum and Trust are quietly confident that by
working together we can bring about significant improvements to Lilford
