Championship Boxing Returns to Robin Park
Wigan Warrior Lee Blundell
returns to the Robin Park Sports Centre this autumn to fight for the
prestigious English Middleweight title. Following Lee’s comprehensive
British Masters title victory versus Simeon Cover in April, Wally Dixon
promotions with the support of Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust have set a
date of Saturday 1st October for the mouth-watering clash with current
title holder Donovan Smillie.
The 1040-seat venue was packed to the rafters for local hero Lee’s April
bout (pictured) and is sure to be at capacity for this even bigger bout.
Lee knows this could potentially lead to a even bigger fight in December,
“I’m hoping we’ll have a similar kind of atmosphere as the Cover fight.
The people of Wigan really got behind me that night and this is an even
bigger test and I’m sure it will end in victory. A win here could set me
on way towards a shot at the British title later in the year.”
The Saturday evening bout is packed with other tantalising clashes
including Eddie Nevins versus Peter Allen for the Central Area Super
Featherweight Title. The undercard also features Eugenio Monteiro from
Preston, Wigan's Mark Paxford, Manchester’s Johnny Rocco, John Davidson
and Abdul Rashid and Blackpool’s Alan Campbell.
Doors for the fight open at 6.30pm and first bell will be 8pm. Fight fans
are urged to pick up their tickets as soon as possible as tickets are
flying out fast. Ringside tickets are priced at £35, the Main Hall seats
are £30 and the Main Stand seats cost £25. Tickets can be obtained by
calling 01602 310876 or 01942 828550.
