Pennington Hall Fanfare for 'Brass in the Park' Summer is in full swing and the
‘Brass in the Park’ season is upon us.This Saturday (June 25th) will see the ever-popular Tyldesley Band performing at Pennington Hall Park in what promises to be the first in a series of majestic brass band performances taking place across the borough’s parks this summer. Saturday’s concert, starting at 2pm, is a celebration of the first anniversary of the opening of the new bandstand at Pennington Hall. The Tyldesley Band, who recently celebrated their 125th anniversary, are not the only attraction on show. For those who do not just want to relax and enjoy the band in the park’s beautiful surroundings, there will also be face-painting and a play area for the children and facilities available to play tennis, crown green bowling, basketball and five-a-side football. “The sound of brass in a sun-splashed park is synonymous with the traditional family outing on a summer’s afternoon. Pennington Park offers the perfect surroundings to feel relaxed and refreshed or to run free on its sprawling lawns,” enthuses Anne Cockram, Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust’s, Parks Community Liaison Officer. “We are looking forward to a fun day out in what is the start of a full season of brass band concerts across the borough’s parks this summer. Don’t boil over in a traffic jam when you can relax in your local park!” The season of summer concerts at Pennington, Mesnes Park and Jubilee Park will culminate with a ‘Last Night of the Proms’ by Tyldesley Band in Pennington Hall Park in September. The Pennington Hall bandstand was a result of productive partnership working between Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, the Council, the police and most importantly the local community. The group is still working towards carrying out further improvements to the park. Phase two will be the restoration of the water feature and landscaping to create an audience area for the bandstand. As well as providing popular venues for the popular ‘Brass in the Park’ concerts, the parks can be used as a venue by any community group for all kinds of different events.
