Robin Park Hosts Championship Boxing A Wigan Warrior is in ‘home’ bout to earn a British title.On Saturday 30th April, Robin Park Sports Arena plays host to one of the most prestigious professional boxing matches Wigan has ever seen. The 1000-seat arena is the venue for home town hero Lee ‘The Wigan Warrior’ Blundell’s enthralling clash with Simeon Cover for the vacant British Masters Middleweight championship title. This is the first of what Robin Park Sports Arena Manager Mike Woodruff hopes will be a series of high-profile matches coming to the arena over the coming months. “Robin Park Sports Arena is one of the largest and best sporting facilities in the North West. Saturday’s bout is likely to be a sell-out and the likelihood is that we will be holding lots more events such as this over the next 12 months,” remarked Mike. “Lee does all of his fitness work at Robin Park and this is another opportunity for the Trust to help promote Wigan’s sporting successes. I’m sure the people of Wigan will come in their droves to support Lee.” Lee, aged 33, feels that fighting in his home town will give him the lift needed to overcome Cover, who has proven to be a formidable opponent. “Bringing this event to the people of Wigan is a dream come true for me. Robin Park Arena has a unique atmosphere when it is packed to the rafters and I'm sure I will put in a special performance to match their support, “ said Lee. “I train regularly at Robin Park, months and months of hard work have gone into my preparation, but I know that it will all be worth it come Saturday night.” Saturday’s match is presented by Wally Dixon Promotions Ltd. and also includes a first-class undercard including Liverpool’s Graham Delehedy and Tony Moran, Birkenhead’s Peter Allan, Blackpool’s Jeff Thomas and Manchester’s Eddie Nevins.
