Big Shout For Tiger Trout As if more proof were needed, reports are flooding in of more and more exotic species of fish being caught by anglers from the River Douglas. Following our story last year about a Rainbow Smelt being successfully netted, local fishermen now report a further increase in the number of species that are being repeatedly caught. One such angling enthusiast, Douglas Fillingham, has reported the successful capture (and subsequent release) of a Tiger Trout. Says Mr Fillingham, "I caught the fish around noon on the 12th October. Luckily, I had a tape measure with me and was able to measure the fish before I released it. It was over fifteen inches long and beautifully marked."
Mr Fillingham added, "There seems to be more and more aquatic life that is being caught and identified. Fish like Perch, Roach, Pike, Chub, Dace, various eels, Gudgeon, along with various species of salmon and trout, are all being caught on a regular basis." And it isn't only fish species that are making new homes in or around the River Douglas. "Both myself and my angling friends have seen the likes of kingfishers, herons, cormorants, hawks and even a family of Mink," says Mr Fillingham. "It certainly has improved our fishing, and it's all due to how clean it looks these days." |
