Curtains Rise On Wigan International Film Festival

Claire DuffyThe Wigan International Film Festival was today (Wed) officially launched with the release of the festival schedule and tickets. This will be the second film festival in the borough, and organisers are hoping that it will be a big hit with local film buffs.

 

The festival will run from the 3rd to the 6th November and highlights include:

  • A screening of the film Testimony, which was filmed in Wigan and Standish, on the 3rd November at the UGC Cinema Wigan. Critically acclaimed director Tony Palmer will be attending the event to answer audience questions about the film. This screening has been sponsored by UGC Cinemas.

  • The Best Of The North West: the cream of the dozens of short films submitted from local and regional film makers on Friday 5th November at The Mill at The Pier.

  • Keep The Faith: A Celebration Of Wigan Casino. The end of festival event with films and music that celebrate the iconic nightclub. Casino legend Russ Winstanley will be on hand to close the festival with a bang on Saturday 6th November.

  • Animated Curriculum: local primary kids will be turning their learning into moving images over a series of workshops and an exclusive screening.

Festival organiser Claire Duffy from Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust said: “This year’s line up is great. We have a range of screenings, workshops and educational events which will open the festival up to everyone. Many of the events are free too, so it is a great way for people to explore film.”
