Gym'll Fix It! - New Look for Pool's Powerhouse
The pool recently took the plunge and revealed its brand new look, including not just new equipment but up-to-date décor as well. The modern fitness suite has been put together by health experts at the pool and includes everything from top cardio-vascular equipment to get your heart pounding, to resistance machines and free weights to tone you up and get those biceps bulging. The impressive new equipment is matched by the expert knowledge of gym staff who are on hand to show newcomers the ropes and devise personal fitness regimes for anyone who wants one. The new gym is the latest in a line of improvements at the pool, which last year saw the centre's ever-popular Russian baths brought out of the cold war era and bang up to date with a major refurbishment. Wigan International Pool manager Stephen Colclough said it was now well placed to become the town's centre for fitness. He said: "These days gyms and fitness centres are more popular than ever and we realise that to compete with the private sector you have to make the health suite more than just a place to exercise but also a place to socialise and relax. "It's fair to say the facilities at the pool are looking better than ever and if you're seriously considering getting into shape then you should seriously consider seeing what Wigan International Pool has to offer. "We're right in the middle of town and we've got the best equipment and staff around. At Wigan we are lucky to have a wide-range of members of all ages and abilities, so coming for a session is never intimidating." He added: "We believe that everyone has the right to improve their quality of life by getting fit in good-looking surroundings, so joining up won't break the bank."
