Make A Path, Then Walk One! Conservation experts are urging the public to spring into action and experience the great outdoors. Rangers with Wigan's Leisure and Culture Trust (WLCT) are inviting everyone to use both their hands and feet and take part in some worthy wilderness-related endeavours, which aim to make the best of some of the borough's natural beauty. The events are part of the ongoing Green Spaces Yours To Enjoy campaign to switch more residents on to Wigan's bounty of natural wonders. The first will help keep you on the right path - by helping to make one! The rangers have teamed up with the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV) to create a new path at the popular Alexandra Park in Newtown. Members of the public are more than welcome to come along, give the Green Spaces Conservation Volunteers a helping hand and blow away the winter cobwebs at the same time. The work begins this Wednesday (January 28) and will continue over the ensuing fortnight. Members of the public are invited to come along an help on the starting date and Thursday January 29, Wednesday February 4,Thursday February 5, Wednesday February 11 and Thursday February 12. The sessions will take place between 10am and 3.30pm. For more information you can call 07764 655711. On Sunday February 1 they'll be a chance to put your foot down with the Pemberton Colliery Circular. This leisurely 4.5 mile walk organised by the rangers takes approximately three hours. It begins at the former colliery site and moves into the nearby countryside. Stout footwear and suitable outdoor clothing are recommended. So popular are the rangers' nature walks that booking is essential and you can do this or find out more by calling 01942 245369. -ends- |
