"Replay" at Wigan Pier

New opportunities for aspiring playwrights

Born in Wigan? Working in Wigan? Living in Wigan?

You could see your work on stage as early as next Easter!

Stewart Aitken, Director of Wigan Pier Theatre Company, believes there is an untapped pool of play-writing talent in Wigan Borough. "We are giving an opportunity for new writers, young or old, to take part in our "Replay" workshops, and to see their work performed by professional actors. In the week after Easter next year, there will be a new Festival, Words.04, based in Leigh and Wigan, which will celebrate the written and spoken word. The "Replay" workshops will finish up with a performance on the closing Saturday of the Festival.

"On five Saturdays in the New Year, six writers will work with what we call ‘a dramaturg’, a specialist who works with writers to show them how to make their words work on stage. Louise Mulvey will be doing this job: she’s an experienced writer, she’s worked in the Script Department at the Royal Exchange in Manchester, and the Soho Theatre in London, and she has an Afternoon Play coming up on BBC Radio 4 on Thursday 11th December."

All that Stewart asks you to do is send 600 words of dramatic dialogue, addressed to Stewart Aitken, Wigan Pier, Trencherfield Mill, Wigan. "We’ll be picking out six, and they’ll be working with Louise to write the scripts for the last night of the festival."
