A pint worthy of a podium finish!
Wigan’s branch of CAMRA will celebrate 25 years and "still running" at this year’s Food and Drink Festival.
Members of the Campaign For Real Ale hopped on to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd steps of Robin Park Arena’s winners podium this week, pint in hand, to raise a toast to a quarter of a century of promoting real ale.
Once again the popular festival opens the town’s annual Food and Drink Festival on Thursday 1 March and this year they’ve issued a rallying call to make this year a really "hoppy" birthday.

Wigan’s ‘Walk of Life’
Some Wigan’s best-known people are set to have their names immortalised in stone as part of the borough’s very own Walk of Fame.
To celebrate the launch of Wigan Council’s exciting new public services hub – the Wigan Life Centre - on Monday 20 February, a trio of famous Wiganers who have excelled in the spheres of sport, culture and business will see their very own ‘star’ inserted in the impressive Piazza at the front of the new building.

Going for Gold!
Businesses in Wigan and Leigh are being encouraged to “go for gold” ahead of this year’s Olympics.
During the lead up to London 2012 staff from Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust’s Sports Development Unit are organising a series of Olympic style challenges that aim to get people fitter and raise money for good causes.

Race for Life 2012
Women in Wigan and Leigh are being urged to join the fight against all cancers by entering Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.
Event organisers are issuing the rallying cry ‘it’s all of us versus cancer’ to mums, daughters, sisters, grandmas and friends, encouraging them to sign up as soon as possible.

Residents in Wigan and Leigh united on Friday (27 January) to remember those who died in the Holocaust and other acts of genocide.
This year’s annual Holocaust Memorial Day encouraged people to “Speak Up and Speak Out” to create a safer and better future!

Pennington Flash’s Big Bird Watch
Pennington Flash will be hosting a Big Bird Watch this Sunday (29 January) to celebrate the bird life and importance of Pennington Flash and Lightshaw Meadows. Peter Alker from Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust said "There will be something of interest for everyone from complete beginners to experts and anyone who is simply interested in their local environment and its wildlife. We hope this will bring people flocking to the site to take part in a range of activities on offer and if successful this will become an annual event."
