Vacancy

POST TITLE: Bookstart Outreach Officer
VAC REF/POST NO: 0110
SALARY: Scale 4 (£16,536 - £18,430) per annum, pro rata
HOURS: 17
BASE: The Wiend Children's Library, Wigan (subject to change)
DIVISION: Libraries & Lifelong Learning
OTHER INFORMATION: Temporary (12 months)

Wigan Bookstart Team is looking for two dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to continue to provide a first-class service to pre-school children and their parents/carers across the borough.

Working with Sure Start Children’s Centres, libraries, clinics and early years settings, the team works to develop a love of books and reading, promoting the message that sharing books is key to a child’s long term development. The team also works with families in small groups, providing an inclusive service that responds to their needs.

You will be working with a wide range of people, including children, parents/carers and other services and agencies. You will be as confident reading aloud to a group of children, as speaking to a group of adults, and will be organised and self-motivated in your work.

We are looking for someone who has experience of working with young children, and who is passionate about reading. You will be proficient using Microsoft Office packages, including Word and Excel, and a computer qualification is desirable. Knowledge of Sure Start services and libraries would be an advantage.

The post holder will be required to work flexibly, including some evenings and weekends, and to travel across the borough to carry out duties.

This post is subject to an enhanced disclosure check.

For an informal chat about the post, please contact Wendy Froggatt on 01942 827507.
