Commitment to Curriculum Standards
We aim to support your core teaching by working within National Curriculum guidelines to meet the following statutory content requirements:

- Chronological Understanding;
- Historical Interpretation & Enquiry;
- Using Evidence;
- Communicating About the Past;
- Knowledge and Understanding of Events, People and Changes in the Past.

Cross-Curricular Learning
Although our sessions are based on History as a curriculum area, we are aware of the importance of cross-curricular learning and incorporate a variety of subjects and skills into our sessions, as well as utilising blended learning and building on citizenship themes.

Our service objectives also incorporate local priorities, and we are well placed to support the local agenda around Community Cohesion.

Learning Outside the Classroom
We are currently working towards the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge, and fully endorse the Learning Outside the Classroom manifesto. We support our local teachers in finding value in sourcing learning outside the formal classroom setting, and are committed to providing an enriching learning experience for all school children.

Local Transport
We understand how difficult it can be to organise a school trip when faced with transport costs. We have consulted with local bus company FE Finch, and have negotiated a special rate for any local schools who would like to visit us. Please contact us for further information.

Homework Help
As well as being in a position to facilitate booked sessions for schools on either an inreach or outreach basis, we would also like to encourage local school children to pop in when we are open on Thursday evenings, Saturdays and school holidays. We are able to assist with any assignments which involve local history and we may be able to source that map, old newspaper article or photograph which would complete a piece of schoolwork!

Access to Grant Funding
Heritage Services has access to a range of funding streams for educational projects. As well our 'in-house' Curating in the Community small grant scheme, we are in a position to draw down other funding from external providers to work in partnership with local schools. Please contact us and ask to speak to Rachel Bryant for further information.
