A new and inspiring vision for heritage in Wigan is now in place, helping people to engage in their own and Wigan’s heritage.
Everyone including community groups, societies and individuals can get involved using a broad range of heritage resources, archives and collections. This will be supported by a dedicated heritage team and network of passionate volunteers.
Learning remains at the heart of the service, with a customer focused approach throughout. A full programme of activities will run at the main heritages sites (Museum of Wigan Life, Wigan Archives and Trencherfield Mill within the Wigan Pier Quarter development) and at many outreach venues, with support from partner organisations. Our flagship publication ‘Past Forward’ will continue to be enjoyed by many within the borough and worldwide.
Exciting Times Ahead
Following a successful Heritage Lottery Bid, the Museum of Wigan Life (formerly The History Shop) re-opened to the public with new facilities, exhibitions and events programmes and will be the first point of contact for all heritage resources in the borough.
