What a picture... What a photograph!

They say a picture saves a 1000 words. To find out if this is true, come along to our new exhibition by Wigan Photographic Society, featuring the stunning images of their very talented members. Find out what makes a good picture and be inspired to create your own.

Want to improve your skills, want to know which camera to buy for Christmas? Then drop in at one of the Society’s ‘Camera Clinics’ and find your hidden talent.

Admission and activities are free.

Proud to be a mining lad
Museum of Wigan Life
Until 28 April 2012

‘Proud to be a mining lad’ showcases a collection of 15 commemorative plates collected by local miner Leslie Bretherton. The plates depict local collieries, the Mines Rescue Service, unions and strikes. Like many other individuals, Les collected these plates with pride, to remember an industry of such importance to the borough.

This small display is in the local and family studies area of the Museum of Wigan Life. Admission is free.

Who do you think you are?
Family History Workshops

Venue: Museum of Wigan Life, Library Street, Wigan WN1 1NU

If you are interested in researching your Family Tree but don’t know where to get started, Family History Workshops take place every Wednesday afternoon at the Museum of Wigan Life, Library Street, Wigan WN1 1NU. Also now offered on a daily drop-in basis (subject to volunteer availability).

Run by experienced volunteers, the sessions involve over an hour of tuition, a full information pack (where requested), and free use of all the resources. The sessions are aimed at beginners with family connections to the Wigan area, and need to be booked in advance (for a Wednesday session) or drop-in or book for any other day.  Thursday evenings and Saturdays by arrangement.
