Case Study - Mental Health Arts for Recovery in the Community (ARC), Stockport “It’s a life changing place! What happens here spills out into your whole world.” Arts for Recovery in the Community (ARC), formerly MAPS (the Mind Arts Project in Stockport) is an arts organisation with a special interest in combating social exclusion, offering free membership to people with mental health needs. There is space for up to 75 members, many of who are involved in the development of the organisation. The creative team of artists, writers, designers, performers, volunteers, mentors and members, work in a wide range of art forms. ARC owns a facility incorporating spacious studios, an art gallery, a design department, dark room services and a member’s lounge. Over the past ten years, ARC has developed a diversity of high quality products and services to offer to other organisations including : Commissions in graphic design – leaflets, posters, Christmas cards, corporate cards, illustrated reports and product design. Commissions in visual arts – paintings, drawings, murals, mosaics, printmaking and photography. Projects such as theatre, film, animation, poetry, creative writing and publications for schools, hospitals, community centres, businesses and other organisations. Consultancy for NHS Trusts, Borough Councils and others interested in setting up organisations or services. Exhibitions in the ARC gallery.
