Five tips for staying safe when joining a new club

Image: Things to Do logoWhilst we do take every effort to make sure that the clubs, projects and activities listed in our Things to Do section are all perfectly safe and above board, there’s still some things you can do to take care of yourself.

Most of these things are common sense, but we reckon they’re worth repeating anyway so that we can help you have a safe and enjoyable time no matter what club you’re planning to join.

Here then, our five tips for staying safe when going to a new club

Tell someone where you’re going

If not a parent or carer, then at least make sure a friend or other relative knows where you’ll be.

Give them some info

Like an address and telephone number. It’s not like they’re going to be checking up on you every five minutes, but at least they’ll know how to get hold of the club in case of an emergency. You could even print off the LINC Online page you found the info on, or at least show it to someone.

Charge your mobile and get some credit

Oh, and don’t forget to take it with you! You never know when you might need to contact somebody.

Plan your journey

So that you don’t get lost, which could put you in all sorts of danger. You can use GMPTE’s journey planner, which we link to on all our Things to Do listings.

Be home when you say you will be

If you’re not going to be, call somebody and let them know so that they don’t worry about you.
