Talent ID Programme

Wigan Sports Development Unit are focusing on a new key objective in 2008, of providing clear pathways for young talented athletes to reach their full potential in PE and Sport.

Helen Browne, Sports Development Officer, will be taking a strategic lead on talent development, working collaboratively with key partners from the School Sports Partnership, Greater Manchester Sports Partnership, National Governing Bodies, Local Sports Clubs and Development Groups, to identify and develop potential sports performers through the establishment of talent identification programmes.

Sports Development and School Sport Partnership talent programmes will form a transition between school PE and club sport and will work in accordance with the Long Term Athlete Development model.

The delivery of the talent strategy will ensure that young people have the opportunity to be identified through systematic processes, have access to high quality coaching, which will cater for a wide range of sporting needs, and have the required support to maximise their sporting and academic potential, such as access to financial support from the Greater Manchester Sports Fund.

For more details please contact Helen Browne on 01942 828510.
