Event Delivery

2008 – 2012 is an important time for sport and physical activity in Wigan. Wigan Sports Development is getting set for 2012 and Events Delivery Officer Craig Anthony will be offering a range of Olympiad opportunities for young people to Get Active. A range of community based competitions will run throughout the Cultural Olympiad offering young people from a variety of backgrounds the opportunity to compete against their peers from other areas of the borough.

In partnership with the School Sports Partnership Wigan SDU will continue to host the East and West Primary Schools Festivals aiming to strengthen school to club links and provide a sporting celebration as a culmination of year round Mini-Festivals hosted by School Sports Coordinators for all 115 Primary Schools. A Sports Club Road Show will be touring the borough in the coming months, targeting school sports days and non-sporting events and venues, giving young people the chance to try new sports, enter competitions and join sports clubs.

Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Greater Manchester Youth Games, Wigan will be holding a training camp weekend to build team spirit in lead up to the event and provide top quality coaching to develop both coaches and participants. This summer sees the start of the 2008-2012 Cultural Olympiad and to celebrate that fact, as part of Wigan Sports Developments Summer Holiday Sports Camps, there will be summer festivals held on the East and West of the borough. Incorporating a range of events the summer festivals will be a celebration of sport and culture.
