About Your Libraries
General Information
Our
libraries offer a wide range of services to meet your educational,
recreational and information need. There is a network of branch
libraries throughout the borough where you can gain access to books on
all kinds of subjects as well as compact discs, videos, talking books,
newspapers, magazines and in some libraries DVDs. Reference and enquiry
services and a range of events for both adults and children are also
available.

How
do I join?
The library is free to join and open to all ages. Children aged under 16
will need to have their application form signed by a parent or guardian.
What
if I can't get into a Library?
Those who can't get into a library can take advantage of our many Mobile
library stops, the Home library Service, or the Talking Book Service.

Where is my nearest library?
What
can I borrow?
Adults can borrow all categories of stock. Under 11-year-olds can borrow
books, CDs, 'U' category videos and story tapes. Over 11-year-olds can borrow
all material within age-related categories.
How
long can I keep them for?
Books are issued for 3 weeks. Audio items are issued for 2 weeks. Videos
for either 2 days or 1 week. DVDs for 2 days.
What
if I don't bring things back on time?
Fines are levied on all items returned late, though children don't pay
fines. If you are having problems paying your fines ask to speak to a
supervisor.

What are the fees or charges?
How
can I get a book that's not in the library?
You can place a reservation for any book in any Wigan library at a
charge of 70p. We can obtain books from outside the borough at a charge
of £2.50.
