Big Xmas Telly Preview 2006 - Part Two
Image: Xmas Telly27, 28, 29, 30th December

So, we guess Christmas is kind of over now. Yet with most of us still recovering from all the festivities, there’s still plenty to entertain on the box.

If you only do one thing over the next few days, make sure it’s watching the ‘Back To The Future Trilogy’ (ITV1, 27th-2.15pm, 28th, 2.25pm, 29th -2.55pm).

These sci-fi / comedy / adventure flicks see Marty McFly and Dr Emmett Brown traveling back and forth through time with grave, yet frequently funny consequences, and are absolute classics!
Check out our full review of the three films in the ‘Classics…’ section of our movie reviews page.

‘The Big Fat Quiz of The Year 2006’ (C4, 27th-9pm) promises to be hilarious. Presenter Jonathan Ross is joined by comedians Jimmy Carr, David Walliams and Russell Brand for a lighthearted look back at the past year.

‘High School Musical’ (BBC1, 29th-5.55pm) caused somewhat of a sensation when it was released earlier this year.

Taking two stereotypes of American high school films, the Jock and The Nerd and finding out that they actually make a pretty good duo may be slightly slushy and predictable, but over all it’s a fun film.

The second part of ‘Little Britain Abroad’ (BBC1, 30th – 9.15pm) sees Lucas and Walliams joining forces with an all-star cast of guests including Peter Kay, Dawn French and erm, Paul McKenna in another hilarious episode.

New Year's Eve

Whether you’re killing time until you go out and party or a planning a night in tonight, there’s some decent stuff on TV to entertain.

Our picks of the day include a live performance from reunited boy band ‘Take That’ (ITV1, 1.40pm) at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Speaking of 90s pop heroes, a special look back at ‘The Spice Girls’ (Sky 1, 9pm) talks about the impact Scary, Ginger, Posh, Baby and Sporty had on the musical world. Quite good for reminiscing if you were there.

And finally, ending our musical marathon is ‘Jools Annual Hootenanny’ (BBC2, 10.15pm) in which virtuoso Jools Holland teams up with the likes of Amy Winehouse, Lilly Allen, The Kooks and The Zutons for this annual ‘Hootenanny’….whatever that is.

New Year's Day

Matt Lucas takes a break from the catchphrase infested Little Britain to star in a live action adaptation of ‘Wind in The Willows’ (BBC1, 6.20pm) which looks brilliant.

Switch the channel straight after this and there’s a host of treats for fans of Monty Python.

‘The Secret Life of Brian’ (ITV1, 8pm) is a retrospective documentary about The Pythons’ finest hour, and how it angered religious groups world wide.

Then there’s the film itself, ‘Life of Brian’ (ITV1, 9pm), staring Graham Chapman as Brian, a man born next door to Jesus who finds his life mirroring that of Christ’s in a wonderfully funny film.

And finally, there’s ‘What The Pythons Did Next’ (ITV1, 10.45pm), a look at the solo careers of all the Python clan.
