Wigan Warriors finally picked up some much needed points with an away win against Harlequins.

A tepid Wigan were almost left reeling in the early going by Quins’ Chris Melling and David Howell, but it was Shaun Ainscough for Wigan who opened the scoring, collecting from George Carmont to cross for a try which Pat Richards converted.

The hosts retaliated with two tries in quick succession from Randall and Gafa to lead into the break.

Warriors fired back in the second half, with Carmont and Phil Bailey going over within minutes of each other to put the visitors back in the driving seat.

As the back and forth battle continued, Harlequins once again seized the advantage as a mighty punt downfield from Randall turned the tables and allowed McCarthy-Scarsbrook and Melling to cross.

But Wigan found a way to come back on top, with Ainscough picking up his second try of the match and Amos Roberts also adding points to give the cherry and whites their first win of the new season.

"We have not started the season as we would have liked, and I hope this result will go some way to changing that situation,” said Wigan coach, Brian Noble, after the game.

Wigan look to capitalize on their new-found momentum when they take on Bradford on Friday March 6th.
