Warrington Peace Centre

Peace TripEight young people, four girls and four boys, visited Warrington Peace Centre as part of the Young People’s Council Training Programme on the 13th to 15th May 2005.  The Young People’s Council is a course that we began in order to learn all the factors that an individual or a group will need to successfully run a Council.  Our visit to the WPC helped us to complete our course – we learned of Wigan’s Cabinet, the importance of different features within a Council and how to prepare and evaluate a meeting.

We pictured the atmosphere as thought provoking.  We discovered the reason for the WPC and the story about the death of Tim Parry and Johnathan Ball. We discussed the importance of the Peace Centre and what it meant to us. In addition, we had lots of fun and learnt much of each other.

In the future, we plan to fundraise for the Centre and make a return visit. Also we created a mindmap to produce a survey for young people in Standish, Shevington and Aspull, in order to find out any issues needed to be resolved. We will analyse out outcome and report to the Township. Questionnaires will be going out to all young people in Standish Langtree area. Also we will be meeting with Greater Manchester Police regarding young people and Road Safety. The trip was organised by Positive Futures.
