This Woman by Claire Phillips

Image: HeartbrokenThese feelings I had for you have very much gone,
Mostly because of the things you've done.

My love for you blinded me,
And it's only now that I can see
All the wrongs you did, the hurt you caused.

I am only so glad I found the key,
To unlock the door and set me free.
Except this time I didn't come back,
Those things you said felt like you'd stabbed me in the back.

The words you said are still loud and clear,
One thing changed though, I no longer live in fear.

The times when you shouted and screamed,
Smashed things up and wouldn't let me leave.
Since then I've started to believe,
In me, myself, the things I can achieve.

It's only now that were apart,
That I know true feelings when I have them in my heart:
I stayed with you out of pity and fear,
It's amazing how my life has become so clear.

You see those things that you put me through, It's made me who I'm;
I'm stronger too, I don't need you or any man,
To tell me what woman I am.
