Following a successful stint on the
legendary warped tour, Birmingham punksters The Fight headed back home
for an equally successful tour of the UK. After ripping up a storm at
Wigan’s Club Nirvana, The LINC hunted down K8 (Guitars/vocals) and Jack
(Drums) and grabbed a quick chat with the foursome about life in one of
the UK’s fastest rising bands.
Alright guys, how did it go tonight?
K8: Awesome! really enjoyed it.
JACK: It’s been different, it was weird having all the people stood at
the back at the start of the gig. We managed to draw them all to the
front eventually, but that was weird, we’ve never had that before?
Do you think that has something to do with this place (Club Nirvana)?
JACK: I reckon so yeah. I mean, this is a big venue, and we’ve played a
lot smaller places where it’s a lot more intimate.
K8: It’s cool though. The size of the place doesn’t matter if you’ve got
people who wanna come rock out, it’s cool.
You played the Warped Tour this year, how did that go?
K8: That was rad, we got to tour about with a load of cool bands we all
like, doing our show then rockin’ out to our favourite bands every
night.
JACK: Proper rock ‘n’ roll. It was a big thing for us to get that and
take our songs to a whole new audience over there (In the US).
What’s it been like to go do that, then come home and play venues like
this?
K8: It’s been good. I mean, I loved every minute of the Warped Tour, but
it’s great to be back home. There you’re on the road every day like a
million miles away from home, where as now, you can pretty much just
jump in your car and be at a gig in a couple of hours.
JACK: It’s good just to be back with all your mates and stuff too. We’re
close to a lot of our friends and family and like, when you’re on the
road away from ‘em for a long time, it’s bit like having cereal without
the milk, y’know?
Have you found that since things have started taking off for you, you’ve
suddenly got a lot more people wanting to be your mates than before?
JACK: Yeah, definitely.
K8: It’s been weird, especially since we’ve had the video on Kerrang.
Like, I’ve had people who I’ve not seen or spoken to in years, like just
people I went to school with and that, and they start textin’ you and
stuff like ‘Hey, how’s it goin’? Saw you on TV”. I never text back, I
know, and we all know who are real friends are.
Did you manage to catch the support acts tonight?
K8: I didn’t, I don’t know about this lot.
JACK: Me either. Well, I caught a bit of Smudge before, they were good.
I noticed you gave a shout out to (local outfit) Car Crash Radio before…
K8: Yeah, we played a gig with ‘em a while ago. They’re pretty cool,
they just asked us to do them a favour and so we dedicated a song to
them.
What’s been the highlight so far?
JACK: There’s been loads. I think I’m gonna go with the Warped Tour.
K8: Yeah, like I said you just got to tour around with some really cool
bands and your friends and that.
Who was the coolest band you played with?
K8: I don’t think you say who’s the coolest cos they were all cool. You
can’t pick one over the other.
OK then, if not the coolest, who was the band where you suddenly found
yourself thinking ‘I can’t believe we’re playing with these guys’?
K8: Again, you can’t say. There were a load of bands we toured with, and
a lot of them we were really into. It was just a great experience to go
do it.
The single comes out on Monday, how are you feeling ahead of that?
JACK: Alright, whatever happens, happens I guess.
K8: I don’t think we’re gonna hit number one or anything, but you know,
we’ve been working hard, and the video’s helped a lot. So we’re pretty
confident we’re gonna do OK. We’re just gonna relax a bit and see how it
goes.
Any message to the fans?
K8: Yeah. We’ve got some really dedicated fans and they’ve helped us out
and supported us a lot, so we really wanna say thanks for everything
they’ve done and helping us out.
JACK: And buy the single!
