Admittedly, this is probably the strangest
Single of The Month we’ve done to date. Featuring one song that used to
do our heads in something rotten, another that hasn’t been popular since
1981 and a third by a group we already bagged the top spot in this
feature a few months back.
Anyway, we’re sure you’re all bursting to know what we’ve picked this
month, so without further ado, September’s Single of The Month is:
Reverend & The Makers – He Said He Loved Me
At some point in the future, Mike Skinner, Arctic Monkeys, Lilley Allen
et all will all either retire or disappear into obscurity, and this
trend of vocalists basically talking in a heavy regional accent will
thankfully be over, yet until then, such tones are very much a part of
the modern music scene in the UK.
It’s for this reason that tracks such as ‘He Said he Loved Me’ have
annoyed the hell out of us for weeks on end; after all, what’s wrong
with good old fashioned singing?
Yet as much as we may be loathe to admit it, this fast-paced tale of a
girl falling for a no-good womaniser is so damn catchy it’s
unbelievable. It’s been stuck firmly in our heads for days, we find
ourselves singing along to it in the car and – shock horror! – actually
enjoying it!
We doubt that Reverend & The Makers will actually be around for all that
long, but whilst they are, bravo to them for creating a tune that has
absolutely no rights to be any good, but actually quite is.
The Runners Up:
Phil Collins – In The Air Tonight
Never in a million, billion years did we ever imagine that we’d find
ourselves in a position where we’d be heaping praise on the ex-Genesis
man on the pages of ‘LINC Online. Yet, we just have to. The soundtrack
to the greatest TV commercial ever created (and if you don’t know what
we’re talking about, where have you been for the last few weeks!?!) shot
back into the charts recently, and admittedly, we’re loving it.
Gym Class Heroes – Clothes Off
They already took our top prize for
Single of The Month back in May with
a song featuring Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump, and now, four months
later, they’re back with another one. This is another great song which
has been bouncing around on our Ipods for weeks.
