Single of the Month: July

It’s been a good month for music this month. Whilst we’ve been headbanging away in something of a heavy metal haven over in album reviews, there’s been plenty to enjoy in the pop charts too.

Kate Nash – Foundations
We’ll be honest, we’ve been vying for Mark Ronson and Lilly Allen’s duet to take the top spot all month, but then this came along and headed first over the finish line by a nose hair.

OK, so Nash and Allen are oft compared, yet whilst Lilly is rehashing songs that have only just left the public conscious, Ms. Nash is waxing lyrical in something that’s undoubtedly original and refreshing.

Dancing pianos skip along to stubborn guitars to create the first big summer tune. Expect this to take over that darn umbrella song at the top of the chart’s fairly soon.

The Runners Up

Mark Ronson feat. Lilly Allen – Oh My God
Like we said, this is the one that nearly made it this month. A cover of the Kaiser Chief’s ‘Oh My God’ which sees Lilly licking her LDN lips over some scratching horns and beefy beats. Not everyone seems to like this track. Thankfully, we’re not everyone.

Arctic Monkeys – Fluorescent Adolescent
Far from the best track on latest album ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’, this upbeat stomper of a tune is none the less enjoyable. It’s so good to see the ‘Monkeys leaving the hype behind and coming into their own.
