What is it, and where can
I get tested?
What is Chlamydia?
Chlamydia is the most common form of sexually transmitted infection,
especially amongst young people, and if it isn’t treated it could open
up a whole host of problems.
Like what?
In women, Chlamydia can lead to something called pelvic inflammatory
disease (PID), which in turn can cause pain in the lower belly, blocked
fallopian tubes, infertility and possibly even what’s known as ectopic
pregnancy, which is when pregnancy happens out side the womb.
Other symptoms for women include going for a pee more often, pain when
having a pee or during sex and irregular bleeding between periods or
after sex.
In men, it can cause pain or burning when having a pee, painfully
infected testicles and maybe even reduced fertility.
Problem is though, since people with Chlamydia don’t always develop any
symptoms, most people who get it have absolutely no idea they’ve got it.
I was told you can get tested for Chlamydia
but it sounds scary. Is it painful?
Not in the slightest. There’s nothing to worry about when taking the
test. It’s just a simple case of going for a wee in a pot, nobody will
find out you’ve taken one, and it’s completely free.
